A Redwood City man with an outstanding warrant for drug offenses was arrested in the 400 block of Second Avenue Monday afternoon after being spotted by a San Mateo County Sheriff’s Deputy.

Joshua Torres, 24, reportedly fled into a nearby yard after seeing the deputy’s patrol vehicle, police said.

Torres was ultimately located in a detached shed, but he refused to come out when ordered to do so, according to the sheriff’s office.

Officers on the scene sent in the dog, and Torres was bit in the leg while being taken into custody, the agency said.

A sheriff’s deputy was also injured during the arrest, with a laceration to the arm.

Torres and the deputy were both treated for their wounds at a local hospital before Torres was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility on no-bail status.

In addition to his outstanding felony warrant for drug offenses, Torres was arrested on suspicion of battery on a peace officer, possession of narcotics for sale and resisting arrest, the sheriff’s office said.

His post-release community supervision status, which is similar to parole, was also revoked.
