After a banner start to the year in non-league play, the three Atherton high schools are set to begin the Peninsula Athletic League football season. Which one is the most likely to earn a league title?
Menlo School and Sacred Heart Prep both stand 4-0 and are gunning to remain undefeated through league play. Meanwhile, Menlo-Atherton (2-2) hopes encouraging performances in losing to two strong programs bodes well for its return to PAL glory.

Menlo, which plays in the mid-level PAL Ocean Division, is chasing its first league title since it won an Ocean co-championship in 2006. The Knights open with a road contest against 4-0 South San Francisco on Friday at 7 p.m.
Sacred Heart is intent on winning its first title in the top-tier PAL Bay Division after taking second behind Terra Nova the past two years. The Gators get a stout test in their opener as they host 2-2 Terra Nova on Friday at 3 p.m. Both programs won a Central Coast Section championship in 2010.

Menlo-Atherton won back-to-back PAL Bay titles in 2007-08 – and then bottomed out with a winless league season the year after. The Bears began to rebuild in 2010 and they hope to show the fruits of that labor this season. M-A starts its Bay campaign by visiting 2-2 Burlingame tonight at 7 p.m.
