Reboot! A course in lifelong healing after stroke, "Life Changing"

A six-week interactive and experiential course for stroke survivors, their family and friends, caregivers and clinicians.

Stroke recovery is an individualized and ongoing process. It changes the lifes of everyone involved, the individual, family members and friends. It requires an integration of interventions to bring mind and body into balance to live at your optimal level of well being. Most recovery programs are focused on physical recovery, leaving survivors, family, friends, caregivers and sometimes even clinicians at a loss in working through new emotional, environmental, interpersonal and social challenges they are faced with. Many experience a sense of loneliness and isolation.

Pacific Stroke Association (PSA), in partnership with Dr. Naz Motayar, MPH, PhD., is proud to present, Reboot! A course in lifelong healing after stroke. Previous attendees have shared that the course was “life changing” and that they “gained hope and acceptance.”

The course supports everyone (survivors, family, friends, caregivers and clinicians) engaged with stroke to:

  • Incorporate an integrative mind-body-soul approach to stroke recovery, and realize the powerful impact each stroke survivor and their network of care and support has on the overall recovery process.
  • Identify barriers to stroke recovery, and explore and practice interventions to overcome these barriers.
  • Design a recovery lifestyle that meets unique and individualized needs.
  • Explore energizing interventions to work through their physical, emotional and social challenges post stroke.
  • Establish a wholistic recovery approach, incorporating self-management and non-pharmacological interventions to improve their recovery process and overall wellbeing.
  • Participate in empowering, joyful, and playful clinical interventions that are proved to enhance stroke recovery process.
  • Establish a support system that they can assess during and after completion of this course.

Mahnaz Motayar, MPH, Ph.D. is a clinical neuropsychologist at Good Samaritan Hospital. She holds a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology and has completed extensive postdoctoral studies and training in neuropsychology and neurology. In addition to neurocognitive evaluation, she provides specialized cognitive retraining therapy to support, empower and enable individuals who are experiencing cognitive weaknesses on how to use compensatory strategies to regain their life purpose and independence.
