San Carlos Resident Arrested on Suspicion of Killing Redwood City Man

He was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of homicide.

Police have arrested a San Carlos man on suspicion of a fatal stabbing in downtown Redwood City.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at Courthouse Square on Broadway at about 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

ā€œWhen officers arrived they located the victim who was suffering from at least one stab wound,ā€ a police statement said. ā€œThe victim was transported to Stanford Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.ā€

Police said they were able to identify the suspect as 24-year-old Jake Monahan, of San Carlos, and found him in the 600 block of Warren Street, where he was taken into custody without incident.

ā€œThe preliminary investigation determined the victim and suspect are acquaintances and were involved in a physical altercation before the stabbing occurred,ā€ police said.

Monahan was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of homicide.

The victim was only identified as a 32-year-old Redwood City man.
