San Mateo County Supervisor Carole Groom was elected to a second term as president of the board of supervisors this week.
Groom, a former San Mateo city council member who was elected to the county board in 2010, set goals for 2015 including continuing funding for Measure A, a transportation sales tax; studying a possible living wage ordinance; laying the groundwork for Community Choice Aggregation, a local energy model, and combating elder abuse.

Groom said in a statement that the board’s goals remained largely the same: “to keep San Mateo County safe and healthy, provide services for the most vulnerable population, and preserve and protect our precious open space and park lands.”
In addition, she said she hoped to continue to work on sea level rise and flooding issues, school safety, enhanced mental health services, the revitalization of the North Fair Oaks neighborhood, third grade reading initiatives and maintaining a balanced budget with healthy reserves. Groom previously served as the board president in 2001.
