Wickers Scores Twice for Knights

Senior Shannon Lacy and freshman Alexandra Walker helped Menlo to a fifth consecutive shutout.

Recording a fifth consecutive shutout, the Menlo School girls’ soccer team defeated Kings Academy 2-0 in West Bay Athletic League play Tuesday in Sunnyvale.

The league-leading Knights improve to 7-1-0 (21 points) and on Thursday, face Woodside Priory, which handed them their lone league loss and entered Tuesday’s play in third place, trailing Sacred Heart Prep. 

Against The King’s Academy, Menlo took the lead 18 minutes into the match when sophomore Lindsay Karle won possession of the ball in the box and then slipped a pass to sophomore Chandler Wickers who scored from 12 yards out.

Wickers found the back of the net again on a 10 yard volley off a well placed cross off the foot of sophomore Jaye Boissiere at 26 minutes.

Menlo's midfield controlled the ball well throughout the match. Defenders -- juniors Hannah Rubin, Ellie Still and Rachel Pinsker, senior Shannon Lacy, sophomore Sienna Stritter and freshman Alexandra Walker played well, limiting Kings to six shots.

Juniors Julia Dressel (two saves) and Kelly McConnell (four saves) combined on the shutout for Menlo (7-4-2 overall). TKA falls to 2-4-0 in WBAL and 7-5-1 overall.
