Young Scientists Show their Stuff at Menlo Park Schools
Oak Knoll Elementary will hold its annual Science Fair for second through fifth graders on Wednesday and Thursday this week, and Hillview Middle School has announced it will hold its own fair for the first time on March 29.
Excited kids all over Menlo Park are putting the finishing touches on their original science projects today as prepares to host its annual Science Fair on Wednesday and Thursday.
At Oak Knoll, second and third graders present their projects on Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., and fourth and fifth graders present on Thursday, 6-8 p.m. The fair takes place in the school's new multipurpose room.
To participate in the Science Fair, students are encouraged to pick their own project topic from a field that interests them, and prepare both oral and visual presentations. Parents can assist - as long as they don't do the project for them - and the school provides "science mentors" who can answer questions and help the students formulate their ideas and projects.

Just for participating, students receive a medal and certificate, and even a white lab coat that says "Oak Knoll Scientist" on it.
Family, friends, and members of the community are invited to attend the Science Fair on both nights and support the students.
"These fairs provide our students with a chance to explore the scientist in them," said Valerie Ambwani, an Oak Knoll parent. "It's a part of their education that is of major concern as the U.S. faces the need for more focus on science in our graduates."
In a bit of exciting news, will host its own Science Fair for the first time this year as well, on March 29 from 6-8 p.m.
