Woman Commits Bank Fraud, Identity Theft In Marin County: Police

MILL VALLEY, CA – A Sacramento woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Mill Valley after a suspected fraud attempt at a local Wells Fargo Bank was thwarted by vigilant bank staff, police said.

Mill Valley Police Officers said they were dispatched to the bank around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday after receiving a call that someone was attempting to withdraw a large sum of money from a customer's account. The bank staff suspected the individual was not the account holder, despite having the necessary personal identifying information to attempt the transaction.

Police said the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Crystal Kay Vaughn of Sacramento, had traveled to Mill Valley with the intent to fraudulently access the victim's funds.

"Due to the vigilance of bank staff, the fraudulent transaction was prevented and no financial loss to the victim has been identified at this time," police said.

Vaughn was taken into custody and booked into the Marin County Jail on multiple felony charges, including burglary, possession of stolen property, make/pass fictitious check, identity theft and attempted grand theft.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is being released at this time.
