1. Marin fire officials say state ‘zone zero' proposal could be stronger (marinij.com) — Homes in Mill Valley are squarely in the crosshairs of new statewide “zone zero” fire-safety rules that would tighten landscaping and require clearing combustibles within 5 feet of houses. Marin fire leaders say the draft rules are a step forward but not as strict as science suggests, urging residents to start hardening homes and creating defensible space now.
2. Mill Valley cuts red tape, fees for new businesses (marinij.com) — Mill Valley has overhauled its commercial zoning rules and slashed permit fees to make it easier and cheaper to open a business in town. Most new ventures will now face streamlined administrative review instead of lengthy commission hearings, with some fees dropping by as much as 75%. These changes, approved April 20, take effect later this spring.
3. Tennis: Clubs gearing up for 50th edition of Marin Championships (marinij.com) — Mill Valley Tennis Club is hosting much of the 50th Marin Championships June 2–7, drawing top adult players and $25,000 in prize money. With registration open until May 10, the nearly century-old club is again partnering with other Marin venues to stage one of the nation’s top USTA tournaments. Organizers promise extra celebrations for this milestone year.
4. Mill Valley compound for sale. The price? Your Anthropic shares. (sfstandard.com) — A 13-acre estate in Mill Valley’s Strawberry neighborhood, complete with an infinity pool, hot tub, putting green, and sweeping Bay and Mount Tam views, is being quietly shopped in an unusual way. The owner, now living in Miami, wants to swap the property directly for Anthropic stock, pitching the deal as a tax-savvy option for AI employees rich in equity but short on housing.
