The celebrated musician will be joined by a legendary guitarist to perform a selection of classics and new material.

MILL VALLEY, CA — Singer-songwriter Karla Bonoff will perform her catalog of songs April 30 at the Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley.

Bonoff is a prolific songwriter whose compositions have become hits for artists including Bonnie Raitt, Wynonna Judd and Linda Ronstadt. Her songs include "Home," covered by Raitt, "Tell Me Why" by Wynonna, and "Isn't It Always Love" by Lynn Anderson.

“I was very lucky early in my career to be recognized by these great singers,” Bonoff told Patch. “I think Bonnie’s version of “Home” is one of my favorites, it was the first song of mine ever recorded by another artist before I ever made a record.”

Ronstadt recorded several Bonoff songs, including three tracks on the 1976 album Hasten Down the Wind. Ronstadt and Aaron Neville also had a hit with Bonoff's "All My Life,” a 1989 duet which later won a Grammy.

Bonoff herself had a chart hit in 1982 with her song "Personally," which reached #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

Bonoff has continued to tour extensively, playing sold-out shows around the world.

Bonoff reflected on her time as a young artist in the L.A. music scene of the '60s and '70s, which centered around The Troubadour music club and included artists like Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Elton John, Glenn Fry, and Wendy Waldman.

“It was a magical time and there were so many talented songwriters who were just starting out,” Bonoff told Patch. “There was a lot of creative space to just do what you wanted to. I absorbed so must from people like Jackson Browne, Laura Nyro, James Taylor. The list is endless. I was lucky to grow up musically in that environment.”

Bonoff’s recent work includes her 2019 album Carry Me Home, her first new album in over a decade, which features new recordings of her classics, along with new songs and a cover of Jackson Browne’s “Something Fine.”

She was also featured prominently in the 2019 documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice, highlighting her friendship with Ronstadt and her role as the writer of several of Ronstadt's songs.

“I will have the legendary guitarist Nina Gerber with me and we will be doing songs from my entire career and maybe a few surprises,” Bonoff told Patch about her upcoming show.
