• Mill Valley breaks ground on new middle school (marinij.com) — Mill Valley Middle School is beginning a major, long-planned renovation funded by local Measure G bond money and the newly passed Measure E parcel tax. Construction will shift students to a large interim portable campus while the aging landfill-site school gets safety upgrades, full electrification, and modernized facilities. Local officials say the project reflects strong, ongoing community support for Mill Valley public education.    

• Sports briefs: McCuskey-Hay, Horn lead way at US Nike Nationals (marinij.com) — Mill Valley high jumper Sullivan Gillmore, a Tam High standout, placed seventh in the boys Emerging Elite high jump at the US Nike Nationals in Oregon. He was among several Marin athletes posting strong results, including top finishes from San Rafael, Redwood, Branson and Marin Youth Track Club competitors. The roundup also notes the San Rafael Pacifics’ successful homestand.
