TIBURON, CA — A registered sex offender on parole was arrested Wednesday night after police said he sexually assaulted a woman on a bike path in Tiburon just hours after being released from jail for a separate sexual assault charge.
Officers responded around 10:25 p.m. to the 700 block of Tiburon Boulevard after a woman reported that a man approached her on the bike path, briefly spoke with her, then grabbed her breasts and tried to force her into nearby bushes, according to the Tiburon Police Department.
Police said the woman fought back and ran toward Blackie's Pasture.
Officers quickly searched the area and found a man matching the suspect's description on the patio of Woodlands Market, where he was detained.
Police said the victim was taken to the market and positively identified the suspect as 29-year-old Robiel Sium of San Rafael.
Investigators determined Sium is on active California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation parole for a prior sexual assault conviction and is a registered sex offender.
Police also said Sium had been released from the Marin County Jail about five hours earlier, where he had been in custody on separate sexual assault and burglary charges.
Sium was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of sexual battery, false imprisonment and a parole violation, police said.
Investigators are seeking additional charges through the Marin County District Attorney's Office.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone who experienced similar conduct or has information related to the case is asked to contact the Tiburon Police Department.
