PG&E May Cut Power In Parts Of Marin County Amid Extreme Wildfire Conditions

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County is preparing for a possible PG&E power shutoff affecting certain areas beginning Wednesday afternoon, as hot, dry, and windy conditions raise wildfire concerns across the region.

PG&E notified the county Tuesday that it may activate its Public Safety Power Shutoff protocols as early as 2 p.m. Wednesday with power potentially remaining off through 10 a.m. Thursday. The utility company said it will continue monitoring weather conditions and provide updates as they become available.

An estimated 2,022 households could be affected — the vast majority in Mill Valley, with fewer than 10 each in Kentfield and San Anselmo.

"Public safety is our No. 1 priority," said Steven Torrence, Director of the Office of Emergency Management. "We will focus our unified efforts to ensure the safety and security of our community members — especially those with access and functional needs whose health could be impacted by the loss of power."

Residents in affected areas can sign up for AlertMarin notifications to receive real-time alerts, and can also enroll in PSPS ZIP Code Alerts by texting ENROLL to 97633 or calling 1-877-9000-PGE.

County officials advised residents to keep vehicles fueled, charge devices now, have cash on hand and review evacuation routes.

Those who rely on electrically powered medical equipment should consult their medical provider about a backup plan, officials said.

Seniors and vulnerable residents who may be affected by an extended outage can call Marin County Health and Human Services' resource line at 415-473-INFO.

The county's Office of Emergency Management is coordinating with PG&E, the City of Mill Valley and the Town of San Anselmo.
