MILL VALLEY, CA — Firefighters battled a vegetation fire Monday evening in Mill Valley that had engulfed some brush and timber, according to the Mill Valley Police Department.
At 6:03 p.m. on Monday, officials said the forward progress of the fire had been stopped.
The fire was reported in the 300 block of Hillside Avenue, where Southern Marin Fire and the Mill Valley Police Department responded.
No injuries or damaged structures were immediately reported.
At 5:33 p.m. the fire had spread to 1.5 acres.
Southern Marin Fire said the fire had a slow rate of spread, allowing crews to gain the upper hand.
Authorities asked the public to avoid the area to allow emergency crews access while firefighters continued working at the scene.
The cause of the fire was not immediately available.
