LARKSPUR, CA — A man carrying a loaded shotgun was arrested early Monday after a community member reported seeing someone with what appeared to be a rifle on a Larkspur walkway, police said.
Officers arrived within three minutes and established a perimeter at both entrances to the walkway connecting South Eliseo Drive and Ladderman Lane.
Officers located the man carrying a shotgun and repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon. He eventually did drop it and was taken into custody, police said.
The man was identified as Juan Lopez Lopez, 30, of San Rafael. Police said the shotgun was loaded with incorrect ammunition and was safely rendered inoperable.
Officers also found documents and other property belonging to multiple people in Lopez Lopez's possession, police said.
Investigators determined Lopez Lopez was on Marin County probation and had an outstanding arrest warrant.
He was booked into Marin County Jail on the warrant and charges including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition by a prohibited person, carrying a loaded firearm in public, misappropriation of lost property and violating probation.
