Nga Pham has only been buying Scratchers® tickets for four months, at a rate of one a month. The first month she won $20, the second month nothing, the third month she won a free ticket and the fourth month she won $5 million. That’s right, Pham won the top prize on the $5 Million Jackpot Scratchers ticket in only her fourth try.

Pham works for an electronics company and although she bought her ticket on October 5, she wasn’t absolutely sure she won until she went to the California Lottery’s East Bay District Office on October 8.

That’s when she knew!

She plans to pay off her house and car but hasn’t planned any extravagant purchases just yet. But she’s only known she was a millionaire for less than 24 hours, so can you blame her?

Pham bought her winning ticket at Me-Kong Supermarket, which is located at 777 East Capitol Avenue in Milpitas. The retailer will receive a $25,000 bonus just for selling the winning ticket.

The California Lottery is a $5 billion enterprise based in Sacramento. It is one of the few state agencies that is a revenue generator, not accepting taxpayer dollars.
