Battle of Words: Speech and Debate Tournament Hits Milpitas

Around 1600 students will converge at Milpitas schools this weekend.

One of the biggest speech and debate tournaments in the country is coming to Milpitas this weekend.

and will host 1600 students from all over the south Bay Area to debate current events over the course of four rounds. Among them will be 42 Milpitas High School students. 

The tournament is part of the Coast Forensic League, a league which represents schools from South San Francisco all the way to Gilroy.

The debate is open to the public; tentative schedules are below.

Saturday

Registration - 7:00 – 7:30 a.m.

Judges' instructions - 7:30 a.m.

Round 1 - 8:00 a.m.

Round 2 - 10:00 a.m.

Lunch service - 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.

Round 3 -1:00 p.m.

Round 4 (final) - 3:30 p.m.

Awards - 6:30 p.m.

Sunday

Registration - 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.

Judges' instructions - 8:00 a.m.

Round 1 - 8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Round 2 - 10:30 – 12:30 p.m.

Lunch - 12:30 – 1:00 p.m.

Round 3 - 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Round 4 (final) - 3:30 – 5:30 p.m.

Awards - 6:30 p.m.
