Become a Nature Volunteer in Local Schools!

Inspire kids to love science and nature! In the classroom, the Environmental Volunteers work with small groups of children and involve them in hands-on, discovery-based learning. Using our innovative teaching materials, we teach children about Bay Area environments. On field trips, we explore local ecosystems as we reinforce concepts introduced in the classroom.

Last year we taught over 11,000 local school children, but we had to refuse hundreds more. You can be the one to say ‘yes’ to kids on our waiting list! How can you become an Environmental Volunteer? Our requirements are simple; all you need is a love of children, nature, and learning!

Many of our volunteers have no teaching experience or background in natural science when they first join us. Our training and mentoring programs provide you with all the skills and materials that you need to become a natural science educator.

Our next volunteer training begins on August 27th, 2015 at our office in San Jose.

This course, entitled “Explorations in Ecology,” covers five of our nine subject areas: Baylands Ecology, Forest and Foothills Ecology, Marine Ecology, Nature in Your Neighborhood (Urban Ecology), and All About Birds. Additional training modules are being scheduled, so contact us for details.

Environmental Volunteers promotes the understanding of and responsibility for the environment through hands-on science education.
