Brush Fire Burns Homes In San Jose
Alum Rock Park is closed Wednesday as fire crews continue to mop up hop spots.

SAN JOSE, CA - A fast-moving brush fire in the east San Jose hills near Alum Rock Park destroyed one home and damaged others Tuesday afternoon. The fire ignited around 4:30 p.m. and quickly burned 100 acres, forcing the evacuation of homes in the area.
Officials said Wednesday morning that a few dozen acres of Alum Rock Park also burned. The park is closed Wednesday as mop up efforts are underway.
The evacuations were for Claitor Way and Boulder Drive.

Local firefighters fought the flames from the ground as Cal Fire mounted an aggressive campaign fro the air, with both fire retardant and water drops.

The Berryessa Community Center was open overnight as an evacuation center.
