Calaveras Road To Remain Closed For Months

A survey of the slide area shows that the earth beneath the roadway continues to move.

MILPITAS, CA — Calaveras Road remains closed and the City of Milpitas does not have an estimate of when it will reopen.

In a printed statement, Milpitas Police Lt. John Torrez said Tuesday, "We are continuing to work with a qualified geology and civil engineering firm to assess the extent of the damage caused by this winter’s storms, identify necessary roadway and hillside repair, and complete roadway repair designs for Calaveras Road. Soil sampling has been completed and the City’s weekly survey of the slide area shows that the earth beneath the roadway continues to move."

The City hopes that repair work will begin in mid-May.
