Flight From San Jose Makes Emergency Landing at LAX

An American Airlines flight to Phoenix was diverted to Los Angeles due to smoke in the cockpit.

An American Airlines flight from San Jose to Phoenix was diverted to Los Angeles International Airport today after a possible mechanical problem was reported.

Firefighters were standing by near Runway 25-Right when the aircraft, flight 564, landed safely shortly before 11 a.m. The flight crew reported smoke in the plane’s cockpit, said Los Angeles Airport Police Officer Rob Pedregon.

The flight landed safely and taxied off the runway where passengers were able to disembark, added Pedregon.

There were 130 people aboard the plane, according to an airport spokeswoman.

No injuries were immediately reported, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department, though ABC7 reported that paramedics were sent aboard the plane to evaluate several people.
