Notices began going out to affected workers in Santa Clara and Folsom on Monday and will continue until Friday.

Employees' last day will be May 31. The company says the layoffs are permanent.

Workers will receive six weeks of pay and three months of health benefits.

The layoffs were announced last week in an email from Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. The company said the moves will save the company approximately $750 million this year.

The company says that the moves are necessary as it transforms for being "a PC company to a company that powers the cloud and billions of smart, connected, computing devices."

Those business, the company said, make up 40 percent of its revenue.

Layoffs are occurring at Intel facilities around the country including 784 workers at sites in Hillsboro and Aloha, Oregon and around 350 in DuPoint, Washington.
