Local Merryhill School Students Assemble Christmas Packages for Operation Christmas Child
Preschool and elementary school students sort toys and assemble boxes to provide gifts for children in need
Preschoolers from Merryhill School at 123 Corning Avenue assembled and stuffed more than 50 shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child, an international humanitarian organization that sends care packages to children in third world countries. Throughout November, Merryhill students and their families collected items to fill the boxes, including shirts, socks, pencils, books, puzzles, games, stuffed animals and candy. On Nov. 20, students formed an assembly line and stuffed the boxes, which are being mailed to boys and girls in Peru, Indonesia, Nepal and the Philippines. Kindergarten students at Merryhill Elementary School located at 1500 Yosemite Drive wrote letters to the recipients of the boxes. Through this experience, students learned the importance of helping children in need during the holiday season. To learn more about Operation Christmas Child, visit http://www.samaritanspurse.org/.
