Milpitas-based Charity Earns Highest Rating for Fiscal Management

Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY), a nonprofit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of youth violence, crime, and incarceration, today announced it has been awarded Charity Navigator’s 4-star rating for excellence in fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency. This is FLY’s third consecutive year of receiving the agency’s top rating.

Charity Navigator evaluates nonprofit organizations and publishes results to help potential donors determine the best recipients for their charitable gifts. The organization also highlights the work of efficient, ethical, and open charities. A

4-star rating indicates that the recipient agency adheres to practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities, and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way.

“Only 12 percent of the charities we rate have received at least three consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating the Fresh Lifelines for Youth outperforms most other charities in America,” wrote Ken Berger, president and chief executive officer of Charity Navigator. “This ‘exceptional’ designation from Charity Navigator differentiates Fresh Lifelines for Youth from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.”

FLY’s work is based on the belief that all youth deserve a chance to become more than their past mistakes. Its young clients participate in legal education and leadership training, and spend one-to-one time with a personal mentor. The teens develop pro-social behaviors, become reengaged in school, and establish long-term educational or vocational goals. FLY helps position juvenile justice youth for positive and productive futures.
