Milpitas High Safe, Police Report

Several residents reported a possible threat on social media.

MILPITAS, CA — There's more than one MHS in this country, and that caused unnecessary concern for some parents and students in Milpitas.

Milpitas Police Lieutenant John Torrez reports, "Late last night, the Milpitas Police Department received a few phone calls from concerned residents regarding a threatening social media picture depicting firearms and referencing 'MHS.' We take all threats seriously, especially those involving our schools and investigated the social media posting.

"We would like to inform you that there are NO threats towards Milpitas High School.

"The social media posting originated in Virginia and was made in reference to a high school there."

The threat involved Monticello High School in Albemarle County, Virginia. A student there has been detained.

While it turned out that there was no threat locally, Lt. Torrez expressed gratitude for the phone calls. "We would like to thank everyone who contacted us last night regarding this matter. The safety of our children and schools is a priority and any instances such as this are thoroughly investigated."
