Milpitas Unified Wants To Help Staff Find Affordable Housing
Milpitas Unified is exploring ways of helping district employees obtain affordable housing so they can continue to work for the district.

MILPITAS, CA -- Officials with the Milpitas Unified School District are exploring ways of helping district employees obtain affordable housing so they can continue to work for the district, the officials said Friday. Goldbar Builders has presented a solution, which involves building secondary dwelling units on the same parcel of land as single-family homes.
The secondary, independent living units would be made available for district employees to rent at below market rates for a period of time.
District officials said the lower rates would be made possible through some creative financing supported partially by private employers.

Staff members will be conducting surveys with employees and homeowners to see whether there is enough interest to pursue the idea.
