Milpitas Woman, 19, Arrested For Suspicion of Fatal Hit-and-Run

The motorist was found in the Great Mall parking lot after allegedly striking and killing a woman riding a bicycle on Monday.

A 19-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly striking and killing a woman riding her bicycle at a major Milpitas intersection on Monday and driving away from the scene, police said today.

The cyclist killed in the collision has been identified as 29-year-old Hsin-Ying Sung of Milpitas, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Sung was born in Taiwan and is survived by her husband, according on an obituary on Fremont Memorial Chapel’s website.

Officers arrived on the scene to find Sung suffering from major injuries in the roadway.

She was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries on Tuesday, police said.

Because the fatal collision occurred during the busy Monday evening commute, there were many witnesses at the scene who were able to describe the car involved in the crash, Milpitas police Sgt. Bryan Hinkley said.

Thanks to their descriptions, police were able to find the car moments later parked in Great Mall parking lot and found Ghallon inside.

She was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter and taken to county jail in San Jose and has since been released.

Police are seeking additional witnesses to the collision and asking anyone with information to call Milpitas police at (408) 586-2400 or the police department’s anonymous tip line (408) 586-2500.
