The capital of the Philippines is 12,856 nautical miles away. Yet, Milpitas is home to some 11,096 Filipino-Americans, according to the 2009 American Community Survey. That's about 16 percent of the Milpitas population. More than 20 percent of the students in the school district are Filipino, and they are the single largest Asian ethnic group in town.
