Ro Khanna Visits Milpitas Rotary

Ro Khanna, candidate for the 17th Congressional District, which includes Milpitas, was warmly received Monday, April 7, by the members and guests of the Milpitas Rotary Club at Brandon's Restaurant.

Khanna, an author, educator, and expert on economics, technology, and manufacturing, presented his job plan for the Bay Area's future and more. He tackled a large number of questions from his audience. His name appears on the upcoming June 3, 2014 Primary Election Ballot.

Also at this meeting seven Rotary Entrepreneurial Leadership Conference (ELC) students sponsored by Milpitas Rotary described their experiences at the March 19 - 21 event held at Asilomar Conference Center in Pacific Grove.

The 96 juniors from Silicon Valley high schools were assigned to teams of three girls and three boys each to learn about entrepreneurial challenges. They developed ideas, products, and services with budgets, finance plans, marketing/distribution plans, human resource plans, and if needed a manufacturing plan. These were presented to a panel of judges.

Several motivational speakers, including Ro Khanna, added much to this educational effort.

Milpitas Rotary sponsored several Milpitas students at $497 each for rooms, transportation, materials, meals, snacks, shirts, and gifts.

Two ELC participants, Anthony Cierrelli and Jose Ontiveros, hail from Cal Hills High. And from Milpitas High were Phuoc Tran, Gabrielle Perez, Hung Tran, Jacob Bautista, and Kyle Nguyen. This experience has made positive impressions on these young people about jobs and the business community.

ELC is a collaborative effort of the Rotary Clubs of Milpitas, Campbell, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale, Sunnyvale Sunrise, Los Altos, Mountain View, and San Jose East/Evergreen.

Boy Scouts of America District Executive, Jessie Nunez, was a special guest of Milpitas Rotary, which sponsors Milpitas Boy Scout Troop 163.

Rotary Foundation Chair, Pete McHugh, presented his uplifting monthly report on member donations to eradicate polio, and help provide medical care, food, and water for the world's most needy.
