School Board Meeting Agenda: Sept. 13

API scores, Randall Elementary, closing the books on financial statements for the 2010-11 school year and recognizing officers involved in the former D.A.R.E. program.

The  Board of Education public session starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The agenda and the board packet can be found online.

Items on the agenda include the following:

API scores. An informational report on the results of the . The data is collected by the California Department of Education and used to calculate the API (Academic Performance Index), as well as part of the APR (Accountability Progress Report) and the federal AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress).

The district API is 848, higher than last year by 17 points.

Randall Elementary progress report. An informational report as the Title I school enters its fifth year of Program Improvement. The result is based on not making the targets for AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress). In 2010, Randall met the targets, but to get out of Program Improvement, it needed to satisfy AYP targets for a second year in row, which it did not do in 2011.

Financial statements for 2010-11 (unaudited). A report will be given on the ending balance for 2010-11 school year. A copy can be found online.

Recognition of D.A.R.E. program officers. The board will recognize Lt. Daryl Sequiera of the Milpitas Police Department Community Relations Unit and Officer Duong Nguyen. The D.A.R.E. program has now been replaced with a shorter but less expensive program called Character Counts. 

• Santa Clara County Committee on School District Organization. A general report will notify members of the public that they can submit application to participate on this committee. The purpose is for redistricting based on population criteria. Applications are due Oct 28. For more information, click here.
