What to Expect at Tuesday's School Board Meeting
Approval of the new Rancho Middle School assistant principal, seismic upgrades to buildings, and more.

The Board of Education public session starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 1331 E. Calaveras Blvd. The agenda and the board packet can be found online.
Items on the agenda include the following:
- Appointment. Ratify the superintendent’s appointment of a middle school assistant principal at Rancho Middle School. The position became vacant after the former assistant principal, became principal at Sinnott Elementary.
- Seismic upgrades of buildings. Approve a contract with Hohbach-Lewin Inc. for structural design services associated with the at the Milpitas High School gymnasium.
- Bond measure. Listen to a presentation about the possibility of pursuing a general obligation bond to increase funding and resources for facilities. Initial cost is approximately $20,000 for the polling consultant and about $26,000 for political consultant. Milpitas' general obligation bond tax rates are the lowest among any school in the county, according to the power point.
- Opening day school report. Review an informational report that includes numbers on staff-to-student ratios, interdistrict transfers in and out of Milpitas Unified, and enrollment figures as off Sept. 13. There are 9,948 students, an increase of about 100 students this time last year.
- Developer fees. Review an informational report that details the accounting of developer fees from projects collected during the 2010-11 fiscal year. Includes breakdown per school.
