When Does School Start in Milpitas?

Students will be returning to school a week earlier than previous years.

In less than a month students will be returning to the classroom. But students within the can expect to see a big change regarding the start date of the first day of school.

The first day of school will begin Aug. 20 — a week earlier than it has in past years, according to an announcement from the MUSD.

"The school start date change will allow those schools on a semester grading system to have their first semester finals before the December break rather than after," the statement reads.

However, there is a benefit to starting school a week early: The early start date is accompanied by an early release date of June 6, 2013, meaning students can begin to enjoy their summer over a week earlier.

Important reminders to read before your child's return to academia are detailed below.

  • All MUSD students, new and returning, need to be in their assigned seat by the time the first bell rings on Aug. 20. Otherwise, students will lose their seat, literally. Students who are absent the first day will have their name automatically removed from the enrollment list, subsequently freeing up their seat for the next student on the list, the school district states.
