10-Pound Dog Runs Down Coyote In South Orange County Backyard

The coyote was in the middle of attacking the dog's brother when the Maltese sprang into action, video surveillance footage shows.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A 10-pound Maltese is being hailed a hero after he saved his little brother by chasing off a coyote that had gotten the younger dog in its mouth, KTLA reported.

The tense moment was captured on backyard surveillance footage earlier this month, after a coyote jumped into the backyard of Mission Viejo residents David and Erin Mascaluso, the owners of the pooches.

The couple told KTLA that their exemplary dog, 11-year-old Vinny, weighs 10 pounds, has three teeth and has always been a "scrapper."
