MISSION VIEJO, CA — Happy Labor Day! a day when most people get the day off and your white pants and shoes should be stowed away until next spring.

The idea for the Labor Day holiday was created by the labor movement, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (who would have guessed?). The holiday is dedicated to the "social and economic achievements" of workers who contribute to America's strength, prosperity and well-being.

2. Check Out Your Local Library Art Exhibits (closed on Labor

The Mission Viejo Library showcases artwork of talented local artists. On display through September 20 is impressive artwork by Pam Wagoner and Tanya Lozano. Pam is passionate about making and promoting works of art that are handmade in the U.S. using recycled, reclaimed, salvaged and repurposed materials. Pam transforms trash into inspirational works of art.
Tanya's artwork has depth and complexity created through multi-layering and texture. Using acrylics on canvas, her style is abstract expressionism, and she specializes in creating commission works. 3. Sounds of Summer Concert Series at Laguna Playhouse

“We’ve Only Just Begun: Carpenters Remembered” is the definitive concert show celebrating the music of one of the most successful recording acts of all time. The Carpenters sold over a hundred million records in just over a decade and still hold the record for most consecutive top-ten singles. Accomplished vocalist Michelle Berting Brett takes center stage accompanied by her 7-piece band of Nashville musicians directed by Harry Sharpe for a behind-the-scenes portrait of the pop music phenomenon that defined an era, and you’ll sing along with hits that include “Close to You,” “Yesterday Once More,” “Rainy Days & Mondays,” and many more!

CARPENTERS: REMEMBERED will perform August 29 & Friday, August 30 at 7:30pm; Saturday, August 31 at 2 pm & 7:30 pm and Sunday, September 1 at 1 pm

4. Shop And Dine Month Begins In Lake Forest!

Shop and Dine Lake Forest Month encourages local residents and employees to support local retailers and businesses. Great food and discount promotions are available during this month from businesses citywide!

The city partners with Lake Forest businesses to offer discounts and promotions when residents and local employees shop or dine at participating restaurants, professional services, or retail shops.

Many coupons may still be active after the month-long celebration. Each coupon will have an expiration date so be aware although some deals may expire sooner than others, there are many more inside that may still be active.
