Quilt Blocks Needed For One-Of-A-Kind Patriotic Blanket In Mission Viejo

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Do you want to be a part of a momentous city project?

The City of Mission Viejo is celebrating America's 250th birthday by creating a new community quilt to commemorate the milestone.

"Through individual quilt blocks created by community members, this project celebrates patriotism while capturing the unique spirit of Mission Viejo," city Spokesperson Kelly Tokarski told Patch. "Together, the blocks will create a one-of-a-kind work of art featuring the colors of red, white and blue."

Community members can learn basic quilting skills at the Mission Viejo Library, thanks to the recent addition of sewing machines through the EmPOWERing Access Project.

The completed quilt will be unveiled in November during a community celebration, Tokarski said.

The deadline to submit is Aug. 31.
