Art Beat Student Winners Recognized
Students from various OC high schools win art competition.
For the third year, the Friends of the Arts, Cultural Arts Committee and Mission Viejo Student Advisory Committee hosted Art Beat, an art competition for area, high school students of any age. Artists submitted work created through any medium and a panel of local, volunteer professional artists selected winners from various categories.
The winners were recognized at the Mission Viejo City Council meeting on January 5, 2015. There were 14 winners from six, Orange County high schools- Capistrano Valley, Laguna Hills, Mira Monte, Mission Viejo, Northwood and Trabuco Hills.
The winners are: Capistrano Valley High School, Mission Viejo: Zackary Rayner, “A Forgotten Time,” best photographic imagery.

Laguna Hills High School: Jairo Bernal, “Out To Sea,” best rendering; Chiara Ghidoli, “Dakota Fanning,” best black and white; Nikol Petkova, “Tiger,” honorable mention; Daniella Trevino, “War Remembrance,” most creative use of material; Caitlin Wine, “Ellie Goulding,” honorable mention.
Mira Monte High School, Mission Viejo: Jessica Kampczyk, entered as Jessica Simon, “Star Gaze,” honorable mention.

Mission Viejo High School: Sawyer Genoway, “Marble Time,” honorable mention.
Northwood High School, Irvine: Nila Mohan, “Wet,” artistic excellence.
Trabuco Hills High School, Mission Viejo: Paulina Aguiar, “Black & White Kid,” best portrait; Snehal Chitalia, “Mother & Child,” honorable mention; Maggie Maturino, “Bee Hive,” best use of color; Sophie Pyka, “The Crakin Monster,” best 3D art; Sarah Teeter, “Knowledge,” best still life.
The Mission Viejo Library, 100 Civic Center, Mission Viejo, 92629, is currently displaying their art through January 14, 2015. Tina Roberts, Coordinator, was also recognized for her support and endless dedication to Art Beat and numerous other activities of the Friends of the Arts and the Cultural Arts Committee.
