The American Cancer Society’s 20th Relay For Life/Mission Viejo begins on Sat., June 7, 2014 at 9 am at Saddleback College track, 28000 Marguerite Pkwy, MV, 92691 with opening ceremonies followed by the Survivors lap to honor cancer survivors.
In the evening at 9 pm the Luminaria lighting ceremony will take place. A white-lit bag (each has a small battery operated candle) represents a person who has fought against cancer, survived or lost the battle. It serves as a vivid reminder for those walking of just how many families and friends it has touched.
The luminaria are used to spell words such as "HOPE" and "CURE" and the words illuminate during the Luminaria ceremony. Some guest speakers share their stories and each participant is given a candle to light in remembrance of a loved one.

Following the Luminaria Ceremony, participants walk a lap around the track in silence to give respect to those who are ill with cancer or to those whose lives were lost.
Relayers will be lead around the track by 21-year old, bagpipe player, Cameron Macleod, who is performing “Amazing Grace.” Macleod is from Scotland and has been playing the bagpipes since he was 12 years old. He plays with the Orange County Fire Pipes & Drums as well as teaches.
