MISSION VIEJO, CA — The Orange County community is rallying around a well-loved baseball coach after he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Capistrano Valley baseball coach and teacher Adam Sorgi is battling peritoneal mesothelioma after a recent diagnosis, and family, friends, players, students and others have been uniting to help support the coach.

"He's been a Health Sciences, Psychology and AP Psychology Teacher at his alma mater since 2019 and was also fortunate enough to become Coach Zamora's successor as Capo Valley's Varsity Baseball Coach that year," a GoFundMe post set up for Adam reads. "Adam loves mentoring, coaching and teaching his students and hopes to continue to do this for years to come! He'd also love to get married and have a family one day."

According to Adam's GoFundMe page, donations were being sought to help pay for the coach's extensive treatment and long-term care needs.

"He will be out for several more months as he undergoes very expensive treatments, starting with an eight-to-12 hour HIPEC surgery on June 1," the GoFundMe reads, "We are grateful that Adam has the opportunity to be treated by the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD where he will receive state-of-the-art care giving him the best chance for remission. That being said, as you can imagine this does not come without serious burdens: physically, mentally and financially."
