Bones Found In Mission Viejo Backyard

A man was working in his yard when he uncovered what looked to be human remains, the sheriff's department said.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A Mission Viejo homeowner was startled when he dug up remains in his backyard that might be human, officials report.

The man was working in his yard in the 24000 block of Via Madrugada when he found bones that he believed were human. He immediately called Mission Viejo Police Services to report the discovery, according to officials.

Deputies were investigating the area for bones and "other evidence" Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff's department said. The bones will be evaluated by the coroner's office to determine if they are human.

It was not immediately clear how long the bones were buried, Carrie Braun of the Orange County Sheriff's Department told Patch.
