Beasts of the Southern Wild- Margot Ferron

Academy nominated, Beasts of the Southern Wild free on Monday at Norman PMurray Community and Senior Center.

Mondays are Movie Magic!  On March 4 at 12:45 pm at Norman P Murray Community and Senior Center the free movie is Beasts of the Southern Wild.

This film was nominated for four Academy Awards and at the age of 9, Quvenzhané Wallis is the youngest ever nominee of the Academy Award for Best Actress.

Beasts of the Southern Wild  takes place in and around Montegut, Louisiana with five-year old, Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis is six years old at the time) and her hot-tempered, unhealthy father, Wink (Dwight Henry) along with dozens of local residents.

Hurricane Katrina is approaching this bayou community called the “Bathtub” that is isolated from the rest of the world by a levee.  Residents are fleeing the area, but ailing Wink and Hushpuppy are optimistic about their future.

Wink is dying and Hushpuppy is facing orphan hood.  She is driven by her childish imagination and is faced with enormous obstacles.  In the Beast of the Southern Wild the tiny, fierce hero, Hushpuppy narrates the movie.
