I am THAT Mom

Do unto my neighborhood as you would have me do unto yours.

In the last couple of months I am not making a lot of friends in my neighborhood, because I am the canary that is singing and singing often.

We have several people in the tract that drive too fast. This is not a cut-through housing tract. This tract takes you nowhere. It doesn't take you from one main drag to the next. Unless you live in here there is not really a reason to be driving though. So we have a few ego maniacs that recently purchased luxury cars that come screeching around the corners—at well over 25 miles an hour. Why? So we notice you? My 3- and 5-year-olds are not impressed, and I think you're an idiot.

I have another "lady," and that term I use very loosely. She drives her kids around too fast, smoking and texting through the tract, and I have had "words" with her.

There are a lot of cul-de-sacs in here and some of the streets (including mine) only have houses on one side of the street. So there are some small-brained teenagers that think because they aren't parked in front of a house, they can drink, smoke pot, or come and throw up in the bushes, and that no one is bothered. Who raises these people?

In addition to being annoying, I recently decided that these nuisances to me could be a danger to my family, kids, pets and neighborhood. So I am that lady, the one that calls the police on the speeders, pot-smokers and teenagers that want to congregate in the cu-de-sac, revving their motors and making a general mess. I mean really, if what you are doing is so cool, and you're so proud of it, go do it at your house. (I mean your parents' house).

I want my 'hood to stay nice, and safe, and I want all the other children in this 'hood to be safe and out of harm's way. So know that I am that mom that will tell your parents, call the cops, and generally embarrass you if you think my neighborhood is a place to act like a wannabe hoodlum. My kids and the other little ones in here deserve the same kind of safe area you grew up in. While this hasn't made me popular among some, it makes me feel like I am doing things that will in the long run protect my kids from the imbeciles of the world.
