Lies, Bullies, Cussing, And Paint

Every election cycle in Mission Viejo the forces of Schlicht get ugly at this point. The lies fly as thick as a Biblical cloud of locust.

Every election cycle in Mission Viejo the forces of Schlicht get ugly at this point. The lies fly as thick as a Biblical cloud of locust. They start sprouting like weeds in the form of immature, home-made signs that Schlicht’s Campaign Manager, Larry Gilbert, plants all over town. Gilbert drives and his elves get out and put up the signs. This year Larry’s main elf is Joe Tully, or so my sources tell me.

This year's lies are the same as last year's, and the year before and the year before all the way back to when Jesus was in the third grade: huge electronic signs that will span for miles and turn us into Vegas without the showgirls or gaming tables. 80-story projects will litter Casta Del Sol golf course. Lobbyists are buying the locals with unnamed sums of money, and so on. The lies are meant to create an image of hell. They are laughable. Good Lord, look around you. Do you see corruption? Do you see any reason to believe these lies of moral blight? I sure don’t.

Sometime track down the forces of Schlicht when they are on the street corner and watch how they behave. They bully the opposition. They scream obscenities and lies. Then they start pushing. A few nights ago they bullied Wendy Bucknum’s volunteers right off the corner; then they sent out emails claiming to be victims. I’ve watched them do this for years. These are the ugly in our town, and they can’t win by playing fair. When it gets close to election day they stop being barking dogs and become rabid dogs, foaming at the mouth with rage. Desperation isn’t pretty.

The last cheap shot they took at me was over my choice of diction. My diction isn’t any worse than theirs. I don’t condemn anyone for using curse words. You won’t find many people who haven’t used curse words. Sure, there was that woman who lived in Calcutta. And I’m sure there must be a couple more, here and there. Most people blurt them out in anger, which is natural but not particularly effective. I studied writing for a long time so I’m more premeditated with my use of curse words, especially the 11- and 12-letter ones.

Words are paint and one should use them for effect. One should use all the words, except where it wouldn’t be appropriate. Using obscene words in emails to someone you don’t know isn’t appropriate. Using obscene words in a family blog like Patch isn’t appropriate. Using obscene words in a blog that isn’t a family blog is appropriate. It’s really that simple. You can see me use all the words here.

Last week an email went out from Protect Mission Viejo. We received one back from a maryellen2. Her reply was two words, one of them was obscene: “Eat Schlicht!!!” I’ll leave it to you to figure out which letters to remove. It was a strange reaction because the Protect Mission Viejo email was completely truthful. When it comes to Cathy Schlicht, we don’t have to lie. We just simply let her use her own words. She’s bad news.

Hear how bad in her own words at Protect Mission Viejo.
