Open Your Eyes Orange County! Drugs are Killing Our Kids
A two-part series about the epidemic abuse of drugs in Orange County will kick off on Thurs., Feb 21, 2013 at 7 pm in the City Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center Dr.

On Thurs., Feb 28, 2013 Ed Hall, Orange County Drug Court Commissioner, will present “A Dose of Reality … in Drug Court,” the second part in a series on drug abuse awareness and prevention inside the City Council Chamber.
The series discusses the problem, local trends, signs and symptoms of drug abuse, resources to deal with it, what you can do and answers your questions.
Parents are the last to know their kids are abusing drugs. They don’t believe it. Their intelligent, talented, athletic and creative kids couldn’t possible be taking drugs. It begins as a social habit, they want to be cool.

Young people who have battled with drug abuse and parents who have lost children will share their experiences. “It can start with a simple over-the-counter medicine, a prescription or a street drug and escalate,” said resident Diana Presta, whose 22-year-old son has dealt with drug addiction.
It doesn’t matter where you live, how much money you make or the kind of car you drive—drug abuse doesn’t discriminate. Don’t be afraid to admit there is a problem in your home. It is not your fault. There is no shame.
