Sullivan Solar Power Launches Citywide Mission Viejo Solar Program

Sullivan Solar Power Launches CityWide Solar Program That Pays Mission Viejo Residents to Go Solar. Solar Company Launches Program to Pay Homeowners up to $2,500

MISSION VIEJO, CA (February 28, 2013) – With the vision of creating a strong solar community out of Mission Viejo, Sullivan Solar Power, a leading Southern California renewable energy company, today announced it will be launching a citywide Mission Viejo Solar Program on March 1. The company’s incentive program allows for property owners in the city of Mission Viejo to go solar for no upfront cost and offers cash-back incentives in addition to the state and federal incentives.

The city of Mission Viejo is no stranger to solar energy. The city created the Solar Energy Education Program (SEEP) in early 2008. As a part of the SEEP initiative, the city will waive the fee for solar power permitting. This leadership has helped the city grow the amount of solar deployed, and local company Sullivan Solar Power says that it plans to expand the number of solar rooftops with their new initiative.

“The comprehensive solar advocacy program has been created to inspire Mission Viejo residents to declare energy independence and create a sustainable future for the region,” said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of Sullivan Solar Power, “Now is the best time to get a solar rooftop, as there has never been an opportunity for Mission Viejo residents to get paid to go solar before.”

The typical homeowner in Mission Viejo will install a solar power system with around 5,000-watts of solar capacity, and will see their monthly electricity bill reduce from $175 to $155 on average.  In addition to immediate cash-flow savings, participating businesses and homeowners receive substantial guaranteed cash-back incentives, up to twice the amount of the rebate offered in the state of California.

The Mission Viejo Solar Program is modeled similarly to the state program whereby early adopters receive the highest incentives. The program is structured into three phases, and as milestones are reached, incentive amounts will drop by tiered amounts. With program incentives currently in phase one, the typical resident who signs up will receive a payment of $2,500.

  • The first 50,000 watts (approximately 10 homes) =       $0.50 per watt up to $2,500
  • The second 50,000 watts (approximately 10 homes) = $0.40 per watt up to $2,000
  • The next 400,000 watts (approximately 80 homes) =    $0.30 per watt up to $1,500

The company led initiative is limited to 100 Mission Viejo property owners and will last just over three months, with a program sunset on June 3, 2013. Participants who sign up first will receive the largest incentives, and the amount of the payments will continue drop as more capacity is committed. Ninety days after projects are complete, participants will receive incentive payments from Sullivan Solar Power.

To inform Mission Viejo residents about the new initiative, solar program luncheons will take place Saturday, March 23 and May 4 at 11 a.m. in the Mission Viejo City Hall at 200 Civic Center.
