Brush Fire Along 5 Freeway Slows Traffic Through Mission Viejo

Firefighters battled a small blaze Wednesday morning along the 5 Freeway, slowing commuters to a crawl.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Lanes on the northbound San Diego - 5 Freeway in the Mission Viejo area were shut down temporarily Wednesday, while Orange County Fire Authority crews battled a small brush fire.

The fire was reported about 6:40 a.m. just north of Oso Parkway, the California Highway Patrol reported. The slow lane remained closed for more than an hour as fire crews worked to douse hot spots, they said. It was not immediately known how the blaze began.

Traffic remained slow through the are as of 10 a.m.
