Can Spill Closes I-5 Northbound Lane In South Orange County

BREAKING: Drivers were alerted to a load of aluminum cans blocking the northbound I-5 Freeway, causing a SIGALERT Monday morning.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Clean up in lane four. A load of spilled aluminum cans closed the number four lane of the Northbound 5 San Diego Freeway in South Orange County, Monday morning at just before 10 a.m.

"Caltrans reported a Sigalert on the northbound San Diego (5) Freeway, just south of El Toro Road in South Orange County," they said.

All lanes of traffic were reported as covered in "dropped debris," that fell from a truck and landed on the right side of the 5 Freeway at approximately 9:30 a.m.

The incident was just north of Los Alisos in the number-four lane. Traffic was moving slowing through the area, when CalTrans sent a sweeper truck to take care of the mess, according to CHP dispatch operator.

"Vehicles were seen swerving out of the way of the CalTrans sweeper truck," according to CHP. The right two lanes were closed during cleanup.

There was no word as to any accidents or injuries resulting from the cans in the roadway.
