Of Note:

177 Days of School. Capistrano Unified had 3 Furlough Days for Students in 2013-14. Saddleback Valley had a 180 day school year in 2013-14 (right next door). The question parents should ask is why should students in the Capistrano Unified school district have 3 less days of instruction than the students in Saddleback? Under “local control” shouldn’t parents have more in-put into how CUSD spends it’s money? The District choose to increase Teacher compensation by $10 million dollars rather than restore the school year to 180 days.

Of Note:

The goal of the States new Local Control Funding Formula is to fund schools at their 2007-2008 funding level by the year 2021. However- expenses will not be held at 2007-2008 levels. The District is projecting an operating deficit during 2014-15. The questions parents should ask is will there be money to restore our school year to 180 days, reduce class sizes to a reasonable level, restore programs and services for students and fix and maintain our facilities if funding is held to 2008 levels while compensation continues to increase?
