"A Christmas Carol" - The Student Film

SVCS Students create a remarkably good version of the Christmas Classic

Just in time for the holidays, students at San Juan Capistrano’s Saddleback Valley Christian School on Friday (11/13) showed off a surprisingly professional version of the classic story. Running just over 35 minutes the film incredibly includes every major scene and features some genuinely good acting performances from the mostly Jr. high and high school cast. The students involved said this was their favorite Christmas story and pushed a dad into helping them. The result is charming and enjoyable. It’s also interesting to note that most of the students took on multiple roles to fill out the large cast. The whole production was shot on an iPhone 5s, and used home depot garage lights to achieve remarkably good lighting. Production started at the end of January, and due to busy schedules, the ultimately eight production days were not completed until July. The total budget was just over five hundred dollars, with the majority of that going to food for the cast and crew. It just shows that when you have a dream there’s no reason to let a little thing like production equipment, and budget stop you. The school screening and party on Friday included an amazing Christmas Carol themed cake created by two of the high school girls.

This student effort has now resulted in an official Film Production Club on the SVCS campus. The film club is currently working on their next movie; a short film called “In God We Trust” a comedy about Redemption. Can’t wait to see it. Below is the link to A Christmas Carol.
