Community Input Sought To Discuss $13.5M CVS Purchase In Mission Viejo
Mission Viejo City council members voted to hold a special meeting Thursday to discuss purchasing the CVS at La Paz and Marguerite.

MISSION VIEJO, CA — Mission Viejo City council members will discuss purchasing the CVS property located at La Paz and Marguerite at a special city council meeting Thursday.
The CVS property in the Village Shopping Center across the street from Mission Viejo City Hall is located at 25272 Marguerite, next to Big Lots and nearby the old Stein Mart property that the city purchased for $11.9 million last September.
For several years, the city council has included the shopping center in their new core vision plan for the city, according to city documents.

The proposal to decide whether or not to move forward with the $13.5 million purchase was discussed briefly at Tuesday's city council meeting, where Councilmember Brian Goodell made a motion to add the item onto the meeting's agenda as a walk-on item due to the urgency of the sale.
According to Goodell, the broker for the CVS property told him that earlier offers would get "better consideration."

The motion to add the item as an add-on subsequently failed 2-3, and council members agreed to discuss the proposal in more detail at a special city council meeting scheduled for Thursday at 6 p.m.

According to an informational Powerpoint authored by IREA, the brokerage handling the purchase, the CVS property's current lease lasts until Jan. 31, 2032.
According to a City of Mission Viejo news release, the city would honor the current lease if they decide to move forward with the purchase.
"I think [the purchase] is worth looking into but, I would prefer to go the normal route that we usually go," Councilmember Trish Kelley said during Tuesday's meeting. "We usually have a more adequate public notification. So I would prefer to see it at an upcoming meeting or even a special meeting."
The special meeting will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. at Mission Viejo City Council chambers, 200 Civic Center. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide feedback to the city regarding the potential purchase.
Mission Viejo residents unable to attend the meeting in-person can watch the special meeting live by visiting the city's website.
