City Council meets on May 24

The City Council on Tuesday, May 24 will host a public hearing to discuss an update to the City’s Economic Development Element of the General Plan and will consider the fiscal year 2022-2023 Law Enforcement Agreement, among other business.

A General Plan is each local government's blueprint for meeting the community's long-term vision for the future. Council Members will consider adopting a resolution approving the General Plan Amendment.

In addition, every year, the City Council considers its public safety contract with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The City of Mission Viejo continues to be among the safest cities in the nation.

During Tuesday’s meeting, the Council will also receive a report from the Orange County Fire Authority to proclaim May through August as Drowning Prevention Awareness Months. Drowning is the leading cause of death and disability in California for children under five years of age and is a big problem for adults 35-64. Essential drowning prevention tips will be discussed.

Also on the agenda for May 24 is a presentation by Director of Animal Services Michelle Claud-Clemente about our City’s animal services and functions. This will include information about the department’s response to the recent Coastal Fire. The presentation may include a special appearance by some furry babies.

The Council’s May 24 meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center. Meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99.
